Abstraction Considered Harmful

Several times now, I have tried to write this post. Each time I get myself all worked up into a lather, and end up confusing myself.

Zed wrote it for me. Go read it.

It turns out, that just like all the other dopes that he talks about, I had been conflating the ideas of abstraction and indirection. Abstraction is generally good whenever it actually shows up. Indirection, however, can be overused. And when it is, nobody wins. Except maybe the Java programmers who are getting paid by the line.

Anyhow, "Indirection, just say no."

Sarah Palin for Veep.

So, there's been a bunch of other people posting stuff about Sara Palin. The little I've managed to gather so far is that she's the governor of Alaska, she has not that much experience, she is fairly conservative (not "neo-", oddly) and she's something of a hottie.

Someone even made a nifty little website about her.

One of the snarky losers on reddit called her a "female Dan Quayle", which is kind of amusing, I am forced to admit.

I'm hoping that the real reason is just a bit more prosaic: John McCain is a dirty-minded old man.

Maybe he's worth voting for after all.

Ha, I had not forgotten!

By now, I suspect that both of my loyal readers had assumed that I had abandoned this blog.

Well, that is just not true.

I think that the problem was that I was trying to have high standards for my posts. Standards so high that I could not meet them. So, now I have a solution.

No, I will not be taking a writing class. I will not be spending more time on the posts. I will, in fact just ignore standards and post any old crappy thing that occurs to me.

Aren't you lucky?
